He debuted in 1993 as the vocalist of the group E.O.S. He later sang songs such as 〈좋은 사람〉 as a guest vocalist for Toy.

He released his first solo album 《Kim Hyung Joong 1》 in February 2003. The title track 〈그랬나봐〉, written by Yoo Hee-yeol, was greatly loved.

〈그랬나봐〉 reached No. 1 on MBC's 〈Music Camp〉 for four weeks in a row. On his second album in 2004 he sang 〈그녀가 웃잖아〉.

He has hosted several radio shows, including SBS's 〈Music High〉. Since 2024 he has hosted an evening music program on cpbc FM.
