걸어온 길

He was born in Seoul and emigrated with his family to California, U.S., at around age thirteen. He began singing in a church choir and was scouted by an agency through a demo tape.

He debuted in 1997 with 〈가위〉 and drew attention for synchronized group choreography in which dancers repeated the same moves in lines. He became popular for strong dance songs and stages that showed off his taekwondo skills.

〈나나나〉 in 1998, and 〈열정〉 and 〈비전〉 in 1999, were loved in succession. His third album 《Now Or Never》 recorded strong sales in its first week.

In January 2002 he obtained U.S. citizenship and was released from his military obligation, and the government blocked his entry in February of that year. He has pursued visa lawsuits since 2015, won again at first instance in his third lawsuit in August 2025, and in November 2025 featured on Justhis's 〈홈 홈〉.
